Dan Perillo Tournament Consolation Championship
"We are the Champions my friends and We'll Keep on Fighting til the End!!!" Queen sung these famous lyrics over 25
years ago and they still hold true today. Our young men showed passion, stamina, athleticism and basketball skills
in WINNING the First Annual CYO Varsity Boys Dan Perillo Tournament Consolation Championship.
Our team defeated a talented and hungry team from St Monica's Parish in their home court. Final Score: St Richard
50 St Monica 47. Early in the game both teams traded baskets by driving to the hole. Later in the game, both
teams were making 3 point field goals look easy. It went right down to the final buzzer - A familiar theme this
year for many of our games.
I am very proud of these young mens' accomplishment. After losing the first game of the tournament to St Thomas by a
wide margin (St Thomas was the overall tournament champion by defeating St Gabriel) we entered the consolation
bracket in a must win or your eliminated situation. Our players responded by winning three consecutive games against
St Mary's, Stella Maris, and St Monica's to capture the title. Only two varsity boys teams will be presenting team
trophies to their respective schools - St Thomas and St Richard. The trophy will look very nice on the new shelves
being installed in the school hall.
All the players contributed to the victory - both starters and reserves. Everybody counts on this team!
Our Tournament Champions are: Shane Thomas, Nicky Nardini, Joseph Hatton, Jimmy Kerrigan, Christian Di Francesco,
Joseph Glennon, Charlie Nicholas, Dante Gleason and Vincent Saulino.
I will be posting a team photo taken at the Award Ceremony. Mr. Hewitt was in attendance and he is very proud of our
young men.
For our eighth grade players - You finished your elementary school basketball career on a positive note. I'm
extremely proud of your efforts. We have some of the finest athletes in South Philly in this class and I'm sure I'll
be reading and hearing about you guys for many years to come.
For our seventh grade players - You are next year's team leaders. You will be expected to prepare the newest members
of your team for Varsity level basketball. You have contributed to this year's team success because you care and
expect a lot from yourselves - Keep that same attitude with you next year and have fun next year!!!
For the parents, families and friends - Thanks for all your support this year!!! Your children appreciate your
dedication to them. I appreciate it your care and concern for the team.

February 8th: vs. St. Nicholas
Our final regular game of the season has some very special moments. Our 8th grade players and cheerleaders were
individuallly recognized by their respective coaching staffs. The 8th graders each ran through an excited group
of our fine cheerleaders at half court before the game as their names were announced. After the game, group photos
were taken. If you're interested in the group photo, please let me know and I'll send it to you. I hope this
recognition can become an Annual Tradition at the Final Home Game of each season. All parents, families and
friends should be very proud of the hard work and dedication that each member of the cheerleading squad and
basketball team has made on behalf of St. Richard's School. As for the game, two evenly matched teams met again
with another close result. Final Score: St. Nicholas 54 St. Richard 45. The score jockeyed back and forth
throughout the game, but St. Nicholas prevailed.
Player contributions from Joseph Hatton, Jimmy Kerrigan, Shane Thomas, Nicky Nardini, Christian Di Francesco,
Vincent Saulino, Joseph Glennon, Dante Gleason, Christian Oakes, Charlie Nicholas, Jimmy Zanaras and Dante Milillo.

Final Score
- St Nicholas 54 St Richard 45
Analysis
Outstanding game by Shane Thomas for us but our defense had too many breakdowns late in the game. Fine season for
our young men overall and I'm looking forward to our upcoming tournaments. Our record was below .500, however, we
battled consistently throughout the season against every opponent and we are very proud of our overall results.

February 6th: vs. Epiphany
An early contested game got away from us in the second quarter and Epiphany never looked back. Final Score:
Epiphany 61 St. Richard 35. Our young men were unaccustomed to a smaller court size and at times felt trapped
by it. Our team couldn't use their usual game plan of team speed on a smaller court. Epiphany, on the other hand,
have been playing excellent basketball and were hitting shots from everywhere on the court.
Player contributions from Jimmy Kerrigan, Nicky Nardini, Christian DiFrancesco, Shane Thomas, Joseph Hatton, Frank
Gagliardi, Dante Gleason, Joseph Glennon, Charlie Nicholas, Vincent saulino, Christian Oakes and Jimmy Zanaras.
1st Quarter
We trailed 12-10 after the first quarter. Shane Thomas 6 points on 3 two point field goals and Joseph Hatton's 4
points on 2 two point field goals was our scoring. Epiphany had 4 points each from Givens and Qugley, 2 points each
from Lamb and Criniti. Evenly matched quarter for both teams.
- Epiphany 12 St Richard 10
2nd Quarter
Our defense collapsed and allowed Epiphany 18 points versus our 8. Nicky Nardini's 6 points on 3 two point field
goals and Shane Thomas's 1 two point field goal was all our scoring. Epiphany was led by Criniti's 10 points, Givens
4 points, Lamb and Quigley 2 points each.
- Epiphany 30 St Richard 18
3rd Quarter
Another tough quarter for us. Epiphany again put up 18 points versus our 9. Our scoring was led by Nicky Nardini's
8 points on 4 two point field goals and one free throw made by Shane Thomas. Epiphany was led by Lamb's 8 points,
Givens 6 points and Thomas 4 points.
- Epiphany 48 St Richard 27
4th Quarter
With the final result not in doubt, we were able to get many minutes for other players on the team. Jimmy Zanaras
4 points on 2 two point field goals, Vincent Saulino 2 points on one 2 point field goal and Dante Gleason 2 points
on one 2 point field goal. Epiphany had scoring from Romeo 6 points, Lamb, Sciascia and Santora 2 points each and
Quigley 1 point.
Analysis
Epiphany was very hot hitting shots from all over the court and we weren't. Nicky Nardini had 14 points to lead
our team offensively. Next up St. Nicholas and the final regular season game for us this season.

January 25th: vs. St. Mary
We did a fine job balancing the scoring among the entire team against St. Mary's. To their credit, St Mary's stayed in
the game for three quarters but we pulled away in the final quarter. Final Score: St. Richard's 56 St. Mary's 41.
We had 22 two point field goals in the game tying our season's best against Stella Maris. We again got ourselves in
foul trouble sending them to the line 6 times in the final quarter. This game proved that on any given day you need
to throw the team records out and play the game because anybody can beat you if you let your guard down.
Player contributions from Jimmy Kerrigan, Nicky Nardini, Christian DiFrancesco, Shane Thomas, Joey Hatton, Frank
Gagliardi, Vincent Saulino, Dante Gleason, Christian Oakes, Charlie Nicholas, Jimmy Zanaras, Dante Milillo and Joey
Glennon.
1st Quarter
A balanced scoring attack right away from our team- scoring from all areas of the court. The slippery surface
according to our players affected their defensive play throughout the contest. Our scoring came from Jimmy Kerrigan's
(2 field goals) and Shane Thomas 4 points (1 field goal and 2 free throws made) and Joseph Hatton's and Nicky
Nardini's 2 points each on field goals made. SM led by 3 points each from Santore and Podaguesi and 2 points from
Sirochman.
- St. Richards 12 St. Marys 8
2nd Quarter
We stayed hot on offense but cold on defense. We outscored St Mary's 14-13. Jimmy Kerrigan stayed hot scoring 7 points
on one 3 point field goal and two 2 point field goals. Shane Thomas added 4 points on two 2 point field goals, Joey
Hatton 2 points on a field goal and Christian DiFrancesco added one free throw made. SM scoring Santore 7 points,
N Barone, Davis and Sirochman 2 points each.
- St. Richard 26 St. Marys 21
3rd Quarter
We tried to put the game away but only outscored SM 13-9 in this quarter. Shane Thomas turned up his game another
notch netting 11 points on four 2 point field goals and 3 free throws made. Jimmy Kerrigan added one 2 point field
goal. SM scoring Podaguesi 5 points, Pagliarelli 3 points and Sirochman one point.
- St. Richard 39 St. Marys 30
4th Quarter
Our young players stepped up their game in the final quarter outscoring St Mary's 17-11 for a hard fought win.
Credit St Mary's for battling until the end of the game. Our scoring came from Joey Hatton's and Shane Thomas 6
points each on three 2 point field goals and clutch 3 point field goal from Frank Gagliardi. SM scoring was mainly
courtesy of the foul line - 4 free throws made by Natalie along with Padaguesi's 3 points and 2 points each from N
Barone and Sirochman.
Final Score
- St. Richard 56 St. Marys 41
Analysis:
Our defensive intensity was missing for most of the game and St Mary's made us pay for it with 6 three point field
goals resulting in 18 of their 41 points. Offensively, a balanced attack led us to 56 points and a victory. Next
up - two regular season games remaining against Epiphany (13th & Jackson Sts) on Wednesday, February 6 at 7:30 and
our final game of the season at home in Murphy Recreation Center on Friday, Feb 8th against St Nicholas. If we can
close out the season with two victories against very evenly matched opponents, we can possibly finish in third place
in our division and finish with an overall winning record. This would be quite an accomplishment for our school's
basketball team.
After the Regular Season Ends News:
Our young men will continue to play more basketball after the regular season ends. We have been invited and have
accepted to participate in the Annual Neumann-Goretti Basketball Tournament. A date for this tournament has not yet
been determined. All players on our team will participate. And after that tournament, we have accepted an
invitation to the First Annual Dan Perillo Memorial Tournament at St Monica's gym. A date for this has not been
determined either. This tournament will require a small unknown fee by each player that participates. Food and
drinks will be available for purchase. It is a terrific idea in memory of a dedicated teacher and CYO advocate
from St. Nicholas Parish. All proceeds will be used for a scholarship to a deserving student. As I get more details
on both of these tournaments, I will pass them on to you.
Go St Richard's!

January 21st: vs. St. Gabriel
We started off strong capturing an early lead but the size of the St Gabriel's squad overmatched us and we lost.
Final Score: St. Gabriel's 56 St. Richards 34. Two players had outstanding games, one on each team.
Shane Thomas had 24 points and Anthony Fleet had 26 points respectively for their teams. We were unable to stop
their inside game and they either scored the basket or were fouled and they made the free throw attempts. St.
Gabriel's went 11 for 25 at the line, while we only attempted 5 shots making 4.
Player contributions from Nicky Nardini, Jimmy Kerrigan, Christian DiFrancesco, Joey Hatton, Shane Thomas, Joey
Glennon, Vincent Saulino, Dante Milillo, Charlie Nicholas, Dante Gleason and Jimmy Zanaras.
1st Quarter
Shane Thomas scored all 12 of our points while Fleet led St Gabe's with 8 points. Selean Johnson scored the other 2
points for our opponent. Both teams struggled defensively to stop their best offensive players.
- St. Richards 12 St. Gabriels 10
2nd Quarter
We couldn't get our offense going in this quarter. We were held to 5 points on very strong defensive pressure by St.
Gabe's. Nicky Nardini had one 3 point field goal and Shane Thomas had one 2 point field goal. St Gabe's scoring Fleet
7 points, Wilkins and Keir 2 points each and Johnson 1 point.
- St. Gabriels 22 St. Richards 17
3rd Quarter
The game got away from us on this quarter as SG outscored us 18-11 to build a 12 point lead. We did score 11 points
thanks to Shane Thomas 8 points and Jimmy Kerrigan's 3 points. SG was led by Fleet again with 8 points, Williams and
Wilkins 4 points each and Johnson 2 points each.
- St. Gabriels 40 St. Richards 28
4th Quarter
The final quarter was unusual for us as went finished quietly. We had 6 points on 2 points each from Jimmy Zanaras,
Nicky Nardini and Shane Thomas. SG put up 16 points from 9 free throw attempts with 6 made. SG scoring Wilkins 9
points, Fleet 3 points and 2 points each from Keir and Moran.
Final Score
- St. Gabriels 56 St. Richards 34
Analysis:
The Land of the Green Giants from St Gabriel's out played us for the last three quarters and our lack of size was a
huge factor in our scoring problems. Nice game from Shane Thomas in our loss. Let's rebound against St Mary's. Go St.
Richards.

January 19th: vs. Sacred Heart
We got back on the winning track on Saturday with a very strong performance on both sides of the floor. Offensively,
we moved the ball around the perimeter and when necessary drove to the basket sucessfully. Defensively, since this
was our second time playing Sacred Heart, we knew their offensive strategy and were able to contain it. Holding SH
to 26 points - our 2nd best defensive stand of the season (25 points vs. St Monica's was the lowest), we led
throughout the game and I'm pleased that many of our players received much deserved minutes on the court. The game
was highlighted by a no-look, 360 degree turn, shot and basket by Joseph Hatton. Final Score: St. Richard 43
Sacred Heart 26.
Murphy Recreation Center was rocking with the inspiring cheers of our top-notched cheerleaders. The girls are well
coached by Ann DeMasi and Barbara Zirilli-Lonergan. The passion these two women have as coaches for our cheerleaders
is remarkable and has been a mainstay for many years at St. Richards. This cheerleading squad takes pride in what
they do and my players and I appreciate their dedication and spirit at our home games.
The family and friends of both schools were respectful - Thanks to everyone!
Player contributions from Joseph Hatton, Nicky Nardini, Jimmy Kerrigan, Christian DiDrancesco, Shane Thomas,
Charlie Nicholas, Joseph Glennon, Vincent Saulino, Jimmy Zanaras, Dante Gleason and Christian Oakes.
1st Quarter
In a physical first quarter, we jumped out to a quick lead, only to see SH come right back by feeding the ball to
Ryan Coney for 5 points and Juan Cora's 2 points. We were led by Jummy Kerrigan's and Christian DiFrancesco's 4
points, Nicky Nardini's 3 points and Shane Thomas 2 points.
- St. Richard 13 Sacred Heart 7
2nd Quarter
Our defense held SH to only 3 points in this quarter as we scored 9. Shane Thomas had 4 points, Jimmy Kerrigan 3
points and Nicky Nardini 2 points. SH scoring from Cora 2 points and Connell 1 free throw made. We received very
strong minutes from Jimmy Zanaras off the bench as we got into some early foul trouble.
- St. Richard 22 Sacred Heart 10
3rd Quarter
We shot very well from the floor and scored 14 points. Joseph Hatton's 7 points and Shane Thomas 4 points and Jimmy
Kerrigan's 3 points put us ahead for good. Our defense held SH to 7 points- Coney 6 points and Cora 1 point.
- St. Richard 36 Sacred Heart 17
4th Quarter
Plenty of valuable minutes on the court for our enthusiastic and cooperative reserves. Charlie Nicholas made the
most of his opportunity with several strong defensive plays and he made one of his two free throw attempts. Great
hustle and quality minutes by Joseph Glennon, Dante Gleason, Vincent Saulino and Christian Oakes kept SH from
getting back into the game. Our other scoring came from Nicky Nardini's 4 points and Joseph Hatton's 2 points.
SH scoring Cora 4 points, Rivera 3 points and Hicks 2 points.
Final Score
- St. Richard 43 Sacred Heart 26
Analysis:
A total team effort in this game - starters and reserves did what we needed of them to get in the win column. We're
trying to climb back to .500 and reach 7-7 but we have a BIG ( I mean TALL task) ahead of us as our next opponent is
St. Gabriel on Monday January 21st at the NEW TIME 7:00 ( not the originally scheduled 6:00). The game is
being played at St. Gabriel's Gymnasium at 30th & Dickinson Sts. Go St Richards!!!

January 14th: vs. St. Nicholas
Another game decided in the final minute! The Cardiac Kids from St. Richard's keep everyone entertained until the
final buzzer. Unfortunately, we came up short on the scoreboard again - this time against St. Nicholas. Final
Score: St. Nicholas 48 St. Richards 42.
A see-saw battle throughout the contest, two evenly matched teams played their hearts out in a very loud Tolentine
Center. The difference in the game was free throw attempts. St. Nicks's had 18 attempts to our 8, making 6 in the
last quarter. We did not get to the free throw line in the final quarter. Player contributions by Joseph Hatton,
Nicky Nardini, Shane Thomas, Jimmy Kerrigan, Christian DiFrancesco, Joseph Glennon, Jimmy Zanaras, Christian Oakes,
Dante Milillo, Frank Gagliardi, Dante Gleason and Frank Dunn.
1st Quarter
St. Nick's outscored us 13-10. We were led by Shane Thomas 6 points on two 2 point field goals and 2 free throws
made and two 2 point field goals by Nicky Nardini. SN was led by Rob Buck's 6 points, 3 points from Steve, 2 points
each by Ricky and Powers.
- St. Nicholas 13 St. Richard 10
2nd Quarter
We only scored 9 points as St. Nick's defensive pressure kept us off-balance. No 3 point shots made in the first
half by us - very unusual as we have one of the best three point shooting teams in the entire league. Four of our
five starters can nail the three point basket. We were again led by Shane Thomas 5 points on two 2 point field goals
and one free throw attempt made and one 2 point field goals by Nicky Nardini and Christian DiFrancesco. SN scoring
Buck, Steve and Powers 4 points each.
- St. Nicholas 25 St. Richard 19
3rd Quarter
We climbed back into the game by pushing the ball to the basket - we outscored St Nicks 15-10, to cut the lead to
one. Shane Thomas had 10 points on five 2 point field goals, Jimmy kerrigan added one 3 point field goal and Nicky
Nardini added one 2 point field goal. SN scoring Ricky 5 points, Buck 3 points,Steve 2 points.
- St. Nicholas 35 St. Richard 34
4th Quarter
As stated earlier, we didn't get to the free throw line at all in this quarter and this decided the game. Our scoring
was one 2 point field goals from Joseph Hatton, Jimmy Kerrigan, Christian Di Francesco and Shane Thomas. SN scoring
was Powers 8 points, Steve and Borelli 2 points each and one point from Ricky.
Final Score
- St. Nicholas 48 St. Richards 42

January 11th: vs. St. Thomas
If it were possible, I would ask the Wizard of OZ for more team height. As one of the smaller teams in the league,
we often have to make up for our team being height challenged by being Survivor contestants - we outwit, outlast and
outplay our opponents. Our game against undefeated St Thomas proved that you can stay in some games with pure
hustle and athleticism, but ultimately you may need height and quickness for all four quarters to come out on top.
Our young men played tremendously for the first 11 minutes of the game and had the lead, however, St Thomas
playmakers stepped up their game late in the second quarter and we never got back into the game. St Thomas was
unsuccessful in the first quarter against us due to our offensive putting up 10 points while holding them to only
6 points but they put up 21 points in the 2nd quarter most right before halftime and took the momentum away from
us. Another energetic home crowd was appreciated by my entire team. The cheerleaders again excited the spectators
and our players. Thanks to everyone who attends our games. Our young men play their hearts out and I know they like
playing in front of friends and family.
Player contributions from Joseph Hatton, Jimmy Kerrigan, Nicky Nardini, Shane Thomas, Chrsitian DiFrancesco,
Vincent Saulino, Joseph Glennon, Frank Gagliardi, Dante Gleason, Christian Oakes, Dante Milillo and Jimmy Zanaras.
1st Quarter
We played great on both sides of the court outscoring St Thomas 10-6. Shane Thomas consistently beat their full
court press and opened up our offense. We were led by Nicky Nardini's 4 points on two 2 point field goals and 2
points each from Joseph Hatton (took the initial jump ball to start the game at center court) and Jimmy Kerrigan
on field goals and Shane Thomas 2 free throws made. St Thomas scoring came from Taylor, Taylor II and Gamble.
- St. Richard 10 St. Thomas 6
2nd Quarter
We used a lot of energy in the first quarter staying with a very strong opponent and we tired defensively in the
quarter. We were outscored 21-7 and our lead evaporated. Jimmy Kerrigan had 5 points on one 3 point field goal and
one 2 point field goal and Shane Thomas added one 2 point field goal. ST was led by Fulton's 8 points, Taylor's 5
points, Coles 4 points and 2 points each from Taylor and Smith.
- St. Thomas 27 St. Richard 17
3rd Quarter
We generated no offense and were outscored 11-2. Our only scoring was Shane Thomas one 2 point field goal. ST had
Coles and Smith 4 points each, Taylor 2 and Taylor II 1 point.
- St. Thomas 38 St. Richard 19
4th Quarter
Nice hustle by our reserves but the deficit was too high for us. We were led by Shane Thomas 6 points on two 2
point field goals and two free throws made, Joseph Hatton's 5 points on two 2 point field goals and one free throw
made. ST scoring Smith 5 points , Gamble ,Coles and Brisbois 3 points each and Tucker and Tabb 2 points each.
Analysis
We were beaten by a very good basketball team. They move the ball around the court quickly, find the open player
and do not miss many of their scoring chances. The game could've been closer if we were more aggressive defensively
instead of letting them make easy baskets. We only sent them to the foul line six times in the game. The foul line
can be a great equalizer against high scoring teams. Our players never quit and this is a great attribute. Next
game is Monday night against St Nicholas. Let's get our record to 6-6.

January 9th: vs. Stella Maris
WOW!!! An offensive display by both teams not usually seen in youth basketball. Playing only 7 minute quarters in
CYO basketball, rarely are so many points scored in one game - 117 points! This averages to over 4 points per minute
played. Final Score: St. Richard 65 Stella Maris 52. Why did this occur? The teams shot the daylights out
throughout the contest. At one point in the game, our team was shooting 80% from the field. Our young men were on
fire from the very beginning and never let up. I'm very proud of their efforts. 4 of our 5 starters had double
digits in scoring - very unusual at this level. We had seven 3 point field goals and twenty-two 2 point field goals
with 3 free throws made. Total team contributions from Joseph Hatton, Nicky Nardini, Jimmy Kerrigan, Christian
DiFrancesco, Shane Thomas, Frank Gagliardi, Vincent Saulino, Dante Gleason, Charlie Nicholas, Joseph Glennon,
Jimmy Zanaras, Dante Milillo, Christian Oakes and Frank Dunn.
1st Quarter
Both teams were firing away and hitting with us with the edge at 16 points to 15 points.
We were led by Joseph Hatton and Jimmy Kerrigan's 5 points each on one 3 point field goal and one 2 point field goal.
Shane Thomas added two 2 point field goals for 4 points and Nicky Nardini added one 2 point field goal. Stella Maris
had 6 points from Willie and Adams and 3 points from Mazzicci.
- St. Richard 16 Stella Maris 15
2nd Quarter
The torrid scoring continued in this quarter. We were hitting from everywhere on the court - inside the paint and
from outside the three point line. We were led by Shane Thomas 9 points on 3 three point field goals, Jimmy
Kerrigan's 7 points on two 2 point field goals and one 3 point field goal, Joseph Hatton's one 2 point field goal and
Christian DiFrancesco's one free throw made in two attempts. SM was also sooting well with 13 points from Willie's 5
points, and 2 points each from Jimmy, Adams, Anthony and Mazzicci.
- St. Richard 35 Stella Maris 28
3rd Quarter
We stayed hot!!! We put the game away in this quarter by outscoring SM 18 to 11. We were led by Nicky Nardini's 6
points on three 2 point field goals, Joseph Hatton and Shane Thomas with 4 points each on two 2 point field goals,
Jimmy Zanaras and Jimmy Kerrigan 2 points on one 2 point field goals. SM was led by Adams and Mazzicci with 4 points
each and 3 points from Willie.
4th Quarter
We finished strong and our reserves did their job to maintain the lead. Our scoring came from Joseph Hatton's 4
points on 2 two point field goals, Nicky Nardini and Jimmy Zanaras 3 points each on a field goal and a free throw
made and a field goal by Jimmy Kerrigan. SM had 7 points from Adams and 2 points each from Jimmy, Mazzicci and
Anthony.
Final Score
- St. Richard 65 Stella Maris 52
Analysis:
Our young men rebounded nicely from the loss to Annunciation. Taking nothing from granted from the start of the
game, we set the fast paced tempo early and took care of the ball when we needed too. Clearly, our best offensive
performance of the season. Both teams showed great hustle and were not afraid to shoot when a shot was available.
Next up, the undefeated St Thomas team at Murphy Recreation Center on Friday. A team photo was taken after this

January 5th: vs. Annunciation
We started out slow and never recovered in the contest against Annunciation. We were behind by 13
points after the first quarter and tried valiantly to get the victory but to no avail. We came as
close as 6 points at the end of the third quarter but ran out of gas early in the fourth quarter
and lost. Final Score: Annunciation 46 St. Richard 33.
This game showed our young men what happens when you do not come out with energy and are over-
confident. With Joseph Hatton's 2 point field goal accounting for our only points in the first
quarter, Annunciation players got all the momentum they needed and never trailed in the contest.
Player contributions from Nicky Nardini, Jimmy Kerrigan, Christian DiFrancesco, Shane Thomas,
Joseph Hatton, Frank Gagliardi, Vincent Saulino, Dante Gleason, Charlie Nicholas, Joseph Glennon
and Jimmy Zanaras.

Defensively, we never got on track and allowed 7 field goals.
- Annunciation 15 St. Richard 2
2nd Quarter

one 3 point field goal and one free throw made and Joseph Hatton added one 3 point field goal.
Annunciation's scoring was from Sanai with 8 points.
- Annunciation 32 St. Richard 26
4th Quarter
We ran out of gas! Nice effort off the bench for our team but the offense wasn't there.
We scored 7 points: Shane Thomas 5 points on 3 free throws made in four attempts and one 2 point
field goal and Jimmy Zanaras 2 points on a field goal. Annunciation scoring came from Jenkins 7
points, Sanai 3 points, York and Dermilio 2 points each.
Final Score
- Annunciation 46 St. Richard 33
Analysis:
This game proves why every game must be played with equal intensity! Never

Fantastic effort by our young men!!! Battling until the final seconds ticked off the clock. A
much better performance than the first time we played Holy Spirit. There were many ifs and buts
that could have determined a different outcome to the game. We go get them tomorrow against

Vincent Saulino, Frank Gagliardi, Dante Gleason, Charlie Nicholas, Christian Oakes, Dante Milillo and Jimmy Zanaras.

Very unselfish play and great hustle by the entire team throughout the contest led to this
victory. Every player is important on this team and I'm pleased with their cooperation. Both parents, family and
friends should be very proud of the effort our young men displayed during this game. Game Attendance has been good
but spread the word around and have them come cheer on our young men. Next on tap is a BIG GAME for us versus Holy
Spirit on Wednesday, December 19th at 7:30PM at Palumbo's Recreation Center at 10th & Fitzwater Sts. Parking is
very limited in this neighborhood, so give yourselves extra time to find a legal parking spot. Go St. Richards!!!

December 7th: vs. Sacred Heart
Another strong TEAM EFFORT against Sacred Heart last night and our young men came away with their second
straight victory of the season. Our team is playing very unselfish basketball - this is the way the game is supposed
to be played. I received several comments from those in attendance about this style of play and how pleased they
are to see it. I am very proud of their teamwork. Last night we used an attacking and aggressive defensive game plan
against Sacred Heart and it worked. We did suffer some foul trouble in the 2nd half of the game but by then we had
built a decent point differential and it didn't affect the outcome. I appreciate the willingness of everyone put on
the court to play their best when they're out there. We have made several offensive and defensive adjustments during
each game and have seen successes. The entire team was at the game - Joey Hatton, James Kerrigan, Nicky Nardini,
Jimmy Zanaras, Shane Thomas, Vincent Saulino, Dante Gleason, Frank Dunn, Dante Milillo, Joey Glennon, Charlie
Nicholas, Christian Oakes, Frank Gagliardi and Christian Di Francesco.
First Quarter
Shane Thomas got us started with all 7 of our points in the first quarter. Sacred Heart had 5 points with 3 made
free throws by Bannig of the teams 6 attempts and one 2 point field goal by Waddell. We missed two free throw
attempts.
- St Richards 7 Sacred Heart 5
Second Quarter
We started to pull away in the second quarter - outscoring SH 11 to 4. Jimmy Kerrigan led the scoring with 5 points
on two 2 point field goals and 1 free throw attempt made. Shane Thomas had 4 points with one 2 point field goal and
2 free throw attempts made, Jimmy Zanaras added one 2 point field goal. SH had one 2 point field goal from Ryan
Coney and one 2 point field goal from Juan Cora. SH missed two free throw attempts.
- St Richards 18 Sacred Heart 9
Third Quarter
Our defensive pressure before the end of the first half and into the third quarter started paying off for us
offensively. SH had many turnovers bringing the ball upcourt due to great positioning by Hatton, Thomas, Nardini,
Kerrigan and everyone off the bench. We scored 12 points versus SH's 5. Jimmy Kerrigan had 6 points with three 2
point field goals, Shane Thomas added two 2 point field goals for 4 points and Nicky Nardini (playing tremendously
all over the court) added one 2 point field goal. SH was led by Ryan Coney's two 2 point field goals and Juan Cora's
one free throw attempt made. SH missed 4 free throws in the quarter.
- St Richards 30 Sacred Heart 14
Fourth Quarter
Playing a more conservative style with a lead, SH outscored us 14 - 9 in the quarter. Foul trouble by us led to SH
getting opportunties at the free throw line. SH had 7 free throw attempts and made 3 of them. Joey Hatton led our
scoring with 4 points on two 2 point field goals. Nicky Nardini added 3 points on one twp point field goal and 1
free throw made of two attempts. Shane Thomas added one 2 point field goal.
Final Score
- St Richards 39 Sacred Heart 28
Analysis
Let's keep it rolling against Epiphany. We need to get control of the loose balls and gain possession. If necessary,
get a jump ball call by the official because it may be our teams possession arrow and we'll get the ball. Also, no
player is allowed to go the parent's side of the court during the game. If it is necessary for health reasons, I'll
call a timeout immediately.
The parents, families and friends have continued to show positive support. In fact, Father John ( Head Coach from
MMOP) spoke highly of all of us to our Father Kaufman.
Please Note: We will not be having any practices on Monday's going forward. The court is occupied until too late.
We will only be holding practices on Thursday's - probably at 7:15. I'll let you know.

December 6th: vs. Mary, Mother of Peace
Our young men never gave up the battle and we earned our first victory of the season. We played our first road game
against Mary Mother of Peace at 65th & Chester in Southwest Philadelphia. Our team started fast out of the gate and
led after each quarter until the final buzzer - which ended with free throw attempts by us with no time remaining
on the clock.
- Final Score: St. Richards 38 Mary Mother of Peace 36
Our balanced scoring attack was led by Jimmy Kerrigan with 15 points - courtesy of three 3 point field goals and

field goals and one 2 point field goals each from Vincent Saulino and Shane Thomas. MMOP 9 points were from Abe
with 7 points and Jamie with 2 points.
4th Quarter
The pressure was on us!!! The gym was rocking in support of a comback from the home team but our guys were up to
the challenge. As usual, our athleticism kept them from slowing down. We scored 8 points with one 3 point field goal
from Jimmy Kerrigan, Joey Hatton's one 2 point field goal and Shane Thomas one 2 point field goal and our only free
throw made of 7 attempts in the game.
Final Score
- St. Richards 38 - MMOP 36
Analysis
Great team effort by everyone. Our defense held when necessary. Our free throw shooting was off the mark - we were
1 for 7 from the foul line. We'll work on improving this result. We had a few turnovers when the full court press
was applied (about 1/2 the game) but we beat it more often than not. Bring on Sacred Heart on the road at EOM on

November 30th: vs. Mt. Carmel
Hello Everyone - Another close contest for our young men on Friday, November 30th against Mt. Carmel. This game
played out differently than our season opener but we fell short on the scoreboard - losing 27-24. After the high
scoring opening game against St Gabriel's (Final Score 53-48 loss), team defenses took over in this game. With
several good perimeter shooters on both teams, there were only two 3 point field goals and eighteen 2 point field
goals made combined for the entire game. Both teams were quick and physical on the defensive side and many shots
were hurried by both teams. Both teams drove to the basket and were fouled by the opposing team. We fared better
at the free throw line as we shot 5 for 10 from the free throw line against Mt Carmel's 4 for 11. Thanks to all
of our players in this game for their support and efforts - Joey Hatton, Shane Thomas, Jimmy Kerrigan, Christian
Di Francesco, Jimmy Zanaras, Joey Glennon, Vincent Saulino, Dante Gleason, Dante Milillo, Charlie Nicholas,
Christian Oakes, Frank Gagliardi and Frank Dunn.
Again special thanks to the parents, families and friends for their enthusiasm. And also my scorekeeper John
Thomas. Our cheerleaders again provided team spirit to everyone present!
1st Quarter
Defensive battle in the first quarter. Shane Thomas had two field goals for our 4 points. We did not attempt a
free throw in the quarter. Mt Carmel only score 5 points with a 3 point field goal from Joey Gorman and a 2 point
field goal from Dougherty. Mt Carmwl missed two free throw attempts.
- Mt Carmel 5 St. Richard's 4
2nd Quarter
We struggled offensively in this quarter. Jimmy Kerrigan hit a 3 point field goal for our only score. We missed
two free throw attempts. Mt Carmel scored 8 points mostly from the free throw line. Mike Lyons and Eric Neill each
had a 2 point field goal and the team shot 4 for 6 from the free throw line.
- Mt Carmel 13 St Richards 7
3rd Quarter
We ended this quarter with the lead. We outscored Mt Carmel 13 to 6 to set up for a fantastic finish. Shane Thomas
had 5 points with 2 field goals and one made free throw attempt, Jimmy Kerrigan added 4 points with one field goal
and two free throws made, Jimmy Zanaras ( played very strong defensively) added one two point field goal and
Christian Di Francesco added a 2 point field goal. Mt Carmel had 2 point field goals from Joseph Jaep, Mike Lyons
and Sabo and the team missed on two free throw attempts.
- St. Richards 20 Mt Carmel 19
4th Quarter
We battled but missed some key shots in this quarter. We were outscored 8 to 4. Shane Thomas added three points on
one 2 point field goal and one made free throw and Christian Di Francesco contributed one point on a made free
throw attempt. Mt Carmel had four 2 point field goals one each by Lyons, Gorman, Dogherty and Sabo with two missed
free throw attempts.
- Final Score: Mt Carmel 27 St Richard's 24
Final Analysis
Strong effort ended up on the short side of the scoreboard. Offensively, we need to work on pushing the ball up the
court more aggressively earlier in the game to create more scoring chances. Defensively, this was a very solid game
for us against a very string offensive team.
Next week is a very busy week for our squad! We play Thursday Dec 6th at Mary, Mother of Peace at 7:30, Friday Dec
7th against Sacred Heart at 8:15 at EOM and Saturday at 2:00 pm against Epiphany at Murphy Rec. Stay loose and in
shape for these upcoming games.

November 18th: Season Opener - vs. St. Gabriel
Thanks to our Assistant Coach Dom Nardini (his plane just arrived from out of town) and he hustled to make the game.
The Parents, Families and Friends were fantastic. You were very supportive of our squad throughout the game. The
team prayers before and after the game were respectful.
The Cheerleaders were enthusiastic and appreciated by everyone. They practice often and their spirited results are
obvious. Our cheerleaders are consistently among the best in the whole Archdiocese of Philadelphia. Great coaching
all these years has really paid off.
We may have lost the game 53-48, however, we played hard throughout the contest. All players contributed both the
starters and reserves. It was a total team effort. Nice contributions from Joey Glennon, Vincent Saulino, Dante
Gleason, Charlie Nicholas, Christian Oakes, Jimmy Zanaras, Dante Milillo, Frank Gagliardi, Jimmy Kerrigan, Nicky
Nardini, Christian Di Francesco, Joey Hatton and Shane Thomas.
1st Quarter Highlights
We started out slowly with 6 points (first game jitters always comes in to play). Jimmy Kerrigan
hit our first 3 pointer of the season (NBN - Nothing But Net), Chrsitian Di Francesco scored a 2 pont field goal
and Shane Thomas made 1 of 2 free throw attempts. St. Gabriel's started strong with 13 points. All five starters
scored in the quarter. led by # 32 Anthony Fleet's 5 points. Kahleem Wilkins 2 points, Sechan Johnson 2 points,
Buddy Moore 2 points, Louis perez 2 points.
- 1st Quarter Score: St. Gabriel's 13 St Richard's 6
2nd Quarter Highlights
We tightened up defensively with both teams scoring 7 points. Jimmy Kerrigan hit his second 3 pointer of the game
and Shane Thomas netted two field goals for 4 points with one missed free throw attempt. St Gabriel's was led by
the talented Anthony Fleet again - he scored all 7 points with 3 field goals and making 1 of 2 free throw attempts.
- Halftime Score: St. Gabriel's 20 St. Richard's 13
3rd Quarter Highlights
Both defenses struggled in this quarter. We allowed St Gabe's to score 23 points and they allowed us to score 18
points. It was an old fashioned shootout from the perimeter and free throw line. Joey Hatton nailed a 3 pointer
and Shane Thomas added three 3 pointers and 5 of 5 free throw attempts for 14 points. Frank Gagliardi added a two
point field goal to close out our scoring. St. Gabe's drove to the basket early and often on our defense and they
did so successfully. Fleet had 10 points (4 two point field goals and 2 free throws made), Buddy Moore 5 points,
Kahleem Wilkins 4 points, Louis Perez 1 point, Paul Williams 1 point and Connor McBride 2 points.
- 3rd Quarter Score - St. Gabriel's 43 St Richard's 31
4th Quarter Highlights
We played hard offensively and slowed their scoring down with strong defense. We outscored St Gabe's 17 to 10 in
the quarter. We hustled until the clock ran out. If the deficit wasn't so big after three quarters, we may have
ended with a victory. Nicky Nardini led the offense in this quarter with 8 points (one 3 pointer, 2 field goals
and one free made of two attempts). Other scoring were Christian Di Francesco with 4 points (2 free throws made out
of 3 attempts) and Shane Thomas with 5 points (one 3 pointer and 2 free throws made in two attempts). St Gabe's
scorers were: Wilkins 2 points, Johnson 2 points, Fleet 2 points, Murray 3 points and McBride 1 point.
- Final Score: St Gabriel's 53 St Richard's 48
Final Analysis:
We need to improve our defense to limit the easy drives to the baskets, improve our outside shooting from within
the 3 point line (we missed many open shots) and start quicker at the beginning of the games to not get behind. No
player fouled out of the game.
Positive News:
48 points coming from 7 three pointers and free throw shooting of 11 of 15. If we can get these results, we're
going to score a lot of points this season. And finally, we played until the final buzzer - All coaches are looking
for that effort from their players and I got it last night.
Thanks to all of our players for a nice opener. Next game versus Mt Carmel on Friday November 30th at Murphy Rec
Center - George Hatton, Head Coach Varsity Boys Basketball.
